Admissions Information

Tucson Country Day School is an open enrollment, tuition-free public charter school and follows the rules and regulations set out by the Arizona State Legislature and the Arizona Department of Education for accepting students into the school.

TCDS is known throughout Tucson as one of the top performing charter schools in southern Arizona.  Almost all of our new students hear about our school from family and friends who are attending.  By the time classes start in the fall, we have a waiting list for almost every grade level.  New families interested in enrolling at TCDS are encouraged to start the open enrollment process as early as possible to ensure a space is available in the desired grade level.

As an open enrollment school, TCDS has no official boundaries.  All students are given equal access to the school based on the Open Enrollment Policy adopted by our School Board. The policy is based on a fair and equitable system that provides for an Open Enrollment period, a lottery, if necessary, and a waiting list.  All kindergarten through 8th grade students who complete an open enrollment registration packet are eligible for enrollment during the open enrollment period.

New students who are accepted and enrolled at Tucson Country Day School are assessed in mathematics, reading and writing.  The assessments are used to place students in the correct grade level and to ensure that individual classes are well-rounded and balanced.

Pre-Registration for Continuing Students

TCDS holds pre-registration in January of each year for all currently enrolled students.  Currently enrolled students are guaranteed enrollment for the following year as long as they complete a pre-registration form in the specified time period.

Open Enrollment for New Students

Open enrollment for new students begins in February and continues until all stated capacities have been met.   Pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes, Tucson Country Day School establishes capacities for buildings, classrooms, grade levels and programs.   As long as capacity is available after the pre-registration period, all new open enrollment applicants are considered for enrollment based on the following preferences:

  1. New students who are children of employees or school board members
  2. New students who are siblings of currently enrolled TCDS students
  3. New students who have completed and turned in their Open Enrollment registration packet

Please note that students must be 5 years old by August 31st in order to be accepted into our Kindergarten program.

When Enrollment is Less Than or Equal To Designated Capacities

If the total number of students seeking enrollment is less than or equal to the capacity designated for a grade or program, all students are enrolled.

When Enrollment is More Than Designated Capacities

If the total number of students seeking enrollment is more than the capacity designated for one or more grades or programs,  students seeking enrollment for those grades or programs are placed in a lottery to determine who will be enrolled.

Waiting List Procedures

Students who submit completed Open Enrollment registration packets who do not receive a space due to grade level and/or program capacities are put on a waiting list and are placed in a lottery for their specific grade level and/or program when space becomes available.
