The TCDS Girl Scout Junior Troop 486 made headlines in this month’s Tucson Lifestyle magazine for their continued philanthropic work which led to the troop receiving word that they will soon be given the “2014 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy” award. Philanthropic events ranged from supporting juvenile diabetes research and collecting food for the Community Food Bank to helping at Casa Maria Soup Kitchen and even collecting books for the school’s library. Their latest event – donating food, toys and bedding to animals at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
The Girl Scout troop was nominated for the award by the Humane Society. The Chief Development Officer nominated them because of all the work the girls were doing on behalf of the Humane Society. They were selected by the Association of Fundraising Professionals committee because they not only helped the Humane Society, but other organizations and will continue to do so.
This is the girls’ sixth year meeting together.
Congratulations to each of the girls and their troop leader! The Association of Fundraising Professionals will hold their awards ceremony on November 21, and that is when Girl Scout Troop 486 will receive this prestigious award.
