Second grade students synergized to prepare cake batter after learning about following step-by-step directions.
The lesson comes after students read and discussed the story Hedgehog Bakes a Cake. At the end of the story is a recipe for the cake that Hedgehog made. Students in Mrs. Rodriguez’s class wrote the recipe down, and then followed the recipe to make the cake batter.
The lesson also tied into math as students talked about division – cups, half-cup, one-third of a cup and one-fourth of a cup. It showed the kids the importance of following directions.
Mrs. Rodriguez baked the cake at home, and the students got to eat it the next day.
Great way to work together, students!
