Resource Staff Find “Donors Choose” Website Successful for Purchasing Student Supplies

Several Resource Department staff members have been busy setting up projects to be funded – and having great success with complete funding – on the website

Last month, Resource teacher and co-director Sara Huber, Speech Language Pathology Assistant Vickie Jones, paraprofessional Adam Weatherford, and paraprofessional Kendra Galanek created individual projects which they placed on – requesting funding for a specific monetary donation to purchase certain supplies for their students.

The website reviews the projects and then posts them to be publicly funded. Anyone can view the projects and donate where they choose. Each of the Resource staff members who used the website for funding received full project funding! Wow – that is great news!

Funding for Ms. Sara’s project will allow her to purchase eight headphones with microphones for her students to record their reading as well as speakers for the desktop computer for students to listen to books.

Mrs. Jones had two projects funded for speech and language supplies. The first project is for books, such as novels, that are rich in language for students to work on articulation goals. The second project will allow for purchasing books on building social skills.

Ms. Kendra’s first project will allow for purchasing paint, paint supplies and stepping stone kits for “horticultural therapy” time in the Victory Garden. Her second project will allow her to purchase garden tools, gloves and a butterfly garden kit for social therapy use in the garden.

Mr. Adam’s project for the Victory Garden will allow him to purchase compost containers, magnifying glasses and worms.

Resource team members who received funding will send thank you letters to their donors and post pictures to the website.
