Fifth grade students spent the day hiking at Sabino Canyon last month after completing a P.E. unit on hiking.
Students – along with P.E. teacher Tim Hall (Mr. Hall) and teachers – hiked about six miles. They began their hike on Sabino Tram Road for the first mile. Then they took Phoneline Link Trail for 0.7 miles as they gained 550 feet in elevation before they reached the top and headed back down Phone Link Trail.
Students and teachers enjoyed a picnic lunch by the Sabino Dam and then splashed in the water above the dam.
The group finished their hike on Bear Canyon Trail, which led them back to the parking lot.
During the hike, students watched for any wildlife – especially birds, lizards and plants.
Mr. Hall says the hike was beautiful and wildflowers, mainly Mexican Gold Poppies, were blooming all over Sabino Canyon.
It sounds like everyone had a great day outdoors! Thank you Mr. Hall for a great hiking unit.
