A group of students from kindergarten through fifth grade took an educational trip to the Reid Park Zoo this week!
Resource teacher Mrs. Short received a grant through a training she attended at the zoo. The grant allowed for students to take a behind-the-scenes, hands-on trip through the zoo. Resource students in some of the math and reading groups attended the field trip. During their time at the zoo, teachers incorporated math and science in the students’ learning.
The students will be doing extension projects in Resource that will focus on math, ELA and science through the zoo bags that they borrowed from the Reid Park Zoo education program.
Resource co-director and teacher, Ms. Sara, says the students loved seeing the lions, petting the rhino, feeding the giraffes and spending the time learning with friends.
A special thank you to Mrs. Short for setting up and attending the field trip, and Ms. Sara, Ms. Debbie and Ms. Vickie for also attending the field trip.
Below, students worked at a measurement station to weigh a turtle.
The following pictures show some more animals that the students met and learned about in a very “close-up” fashion.
