Ms. Shannon’s third grade class is having a fun time while they practice measuring and rounding in math.
During the lesson, students demonstrated the two skills through a variety of activities. They worked in small groups and were asked to measure different items with several measurement units. Students used a scale to measure bags of seeds in grams; beakers to measure liquid in milliliters; and rulers to measure the length of items – such as a pencil, piece of paper, desk and their shoes – in inches. The kids also answered questions about telling time.
Once all of the measurements were complete, students rounded their answers to the nearest ten.
Ms. Shannon says that her students had fun and learned a lot!
