“Hands-On” Project Helps Sixth Grade Students Learn About Ancient History

Sixth grade students in Mr. Kievit’s Social Studies classes have been busy creating some very detailed – and amazing – “hands-on” History projects.

Students designed and created “hands-on” projects for their peers to interact with. Incorporating everything from board games to costume role-play and navigation techniques using cardinal directions and hand-drawn maps, these projects were a tremendous example of what our students can accomplish – and how to keep learning both fun and engaging.

These were individual projects. Once completed, students spent two days interacting with one another’s projects.

This assignment reinforced classroom curriculum and helped students review important facts and ideas about ancient history.
