Extracurricular Activities: Community Events

TCDS isn’t just a school; it’s an extended family that enjoys each other’s company, creating long lasting friendships along the way. Below you will find just some of the events and activities that are held each year.

Smarty Parties
One of the ways TCDS celebrates excellence is with our Smarty Parties. Students in grades 4-8 with a GPA of 3.7 or higher are invited to a special breakfast or luncheon in their honor. It’s “cool” to be smart at TCDS.

Perfect Attendance
Coming to school on time every day is an important achievement we at TCDS like to reward. Each quarter students who have not missed a day, been late or left early are publicly acknowledged at the morning flag ceremony.

Principal Breakfasts and Yah Hoo Boo Hoo
Come join fellow parents for an informal breakfast with Dr. Saliba. Started originally as a way to help Kindergarten parents celebrate (Yah Hoo) and mourn (Boo Hoo) their child’s first day of Kindergarten, these breakfasts give us a chance to visit with the Principal and other families with children in the same grade level. Watch the online calendar for upcoming grade level breakfasts.

Spell-a-Thon
What is the Spell-a-thon you ask? It's part fundraiser and part spelling contest rolled into one. Students collect pledges from friends and family to learn their spelling words. There are great prizes and a chance to win a trip to Chuck E Cheese in a limo! Those who excel on the Spell-a-thon test will have a chance to qualify to represent TCDS in the Pima county spelling bee. The Spell-a-thon test takes place in January.

Fall Festival
SPA sponsors a school-wide carnival each year in October to help welcome everyone back and strengthen our TCDS family. Activities include multiple inflatables, two cake walks, pie eating contests, face painting, a rock wall, obstacle courses, a decorated pumpkin contest, teacher dunk tank, food, music and lots of fun!

The Fall Festival marketplace gives families a place to showcase their business, hobby, product or service in a 10x10 area while the special Early Education area contains simple carnival games and a jumping castle reserved for children one to five years old.

Scholastic Book Fair – Both Fall and Spring
Developing a love of reading is an important step in any child’s education. TCDS holds two scholastic book fairs each year, in the fall and the spring. These book fairs give families a chance to browse and purchase books in a relaxed, on campus environment. A percentage of all purchases go to support the school library.

Winter Program
Come enjoy our annual winter program where children of all grades sing and perform skits to celebrate the season.

Uniform Recycling
Children grow, and grow and grow! As parents know, buying children’s clothes is an ongoing process. The TCDS family helps each other by recycling our gently used uniform clothes. Drop any TCDS logo or uniform appropriate items in the Uniform Recycling bin outside the front office. SPA volunteers will clean, sort and resell everything for $2 each item several times throughout the year.

Original Artworks
What better way to remember your child’s school years than to create household items containing their artwork. Each year SPA offers parents a chance to order items such as night lights, coasters, and clocks using their child’s artwork.

Pizza Hut, Chuck E Cheese, Wendy’s and Skate Country other Special Nights
Join in the camaraderie while raising money for SPA. Several times during the school year, each of these restaurants gives TCDS a percentage of their sales and opens their doors for a family night of raffles, prizes, food and fun.

Cookie Dough sale
Occurring annually in the fall, students selling cookie dough to friends and family is SPA’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from this sale help us continue to spoil the school with wonderful purchases such as the marquee. Students also win prizes based upon the number of orders they turn in.

Annual Pumpkin Patch and Costume Parade
Join us for two TCDS traditions! Come to school dressed in your Halloween costume but, be sure to either wear your uniform underneath or bring it to change into after the morning parade. Please remember NO BLOOD, FACE MAKE UP, WEAPONS OR BLOODY/GORY MASKS. Everyone participates including preschool so let’s try not to be too scary. We also have an annual pumpkin patch in October with no cost to participate. Children may purchase a pumpkin for $5 each, only one per child please.
