Extracurricular Activities: Clubs

TCDS doesn’t end when school does. Come join one of our great clubs! Activities and meetings are updated frequently on the main TCDS calendar. Please note that due to different maturity and learning levels, some clubs only allow older students to participate.

Specific meeting dates, times and fee structure will be posted soon for all activities and clubs. Until then, please ask at Meet & Greet.

A Little Extra Knowledge (Middle school tutors K-5th)
What better way to learn than from fellow students! TCDS prides itself on helping each other succeed. Most Tuesdays after school middle school students help tutor K-5 students on math, reading or anything else they could use “a little extra knowledge” about.

Garden Club – (Grades Preschool – 8th)
Meets every Wednesday from 3-4:30pm at the school garden. Students participate in various aspects of gardening planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, bugs, life cycles, composting, a worm bin, water harvesting and much more.

Roots and Shoots – (Grades K-8th)
Sponsored by Jane Goodall, the Roots & Shoots program is about making positive change happen—for our communities, for animals and for the environment. With tens of thousands of young people in almost 100 countries, the Roots & Shoots network connects youth of all ages who share a desire to create a better world. Young people identify problems in their communities and take action. Through service projects, youth-led campaigns and an interactive website, Roots & Shoots members are making a difference across the globe. TCDS is one of only five Tucson schools to be accepted into this nationally recognized program.

Strings Club - (Grades 4th-8th)
This year, TCDS will have a STRINGS CLUB that meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Music Room. This group is open to students from 4th through 8th grades and will have the potential to develop into a small orchestra. Any students with experience playing the violin or those who would like to play the violin are encouraged to join the class. In addition, students with experience playing viola, cello, or string bass and students with piano experience who wish to play a stringed instrument are also invited to participate. Students are responsible for providing their own instrument (rental or ownership) and for obtaining a basic music stand for practice at home. The cost for each session is only $10. Our instructor is Ms. Andrea Jameson, the Assistant Director of Tucson Junior Strings. Ms. Jameson will be meeting students in their classrooms during the first two weeks of school, and we hope to have the club up and running by the third or fourth week. Come and join us in making music. Bring your talent to life!
