Since 1968, Tucson Country Day School has offered exceptional and exciting programs for Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten students that result in our three and four-year-old children accelerating both their academic and social skills. The dedication, experience and professionalism of the Early Childhood staff provides parents the assurance that their children are given the guidance they need to become successful, mature and creative learners. Our Early Childhood program is a tuition-based program.

At Tucson Country Day School, we believe:
- In the importance of formulating a partnership with parents in the care and education of their child.
- In providing children an inviting and comfortable learning environment.
- All children are capable learners.
- Each child’s social, emotional and problem-solving development is closely related to their overall cognitive development.
- That curriculum should be guided by developmentally, culturally and best instructional practices.
- That activities for children should emphasize exploration and inquiry in all learning domains listed in the Early Childhood Standards by the Arizona Department of Education.
Our Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum
In Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten, our curriculum and instructional practices focus on the uniqueness of each child and follow the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Our teaching practices are influenced by Early Childhood research where children are provided with a variety of opportunities to explore and experiment with learning concepts through play. We provide experiences in a developmental sequence structured to assist and support children as they strengthen and develop their skills in the following areas:
- Health and Safety
- Character Development/Self Concept
- Literacy and Language
- Creative and Social Arts
- Small and Large Motor Movement

The Early Childhood staff are kind, caring, loving individuals who are skilled in the strategies for educating your children and dedicated to their success. Staff is involved in on-going professional development classes and activities, and follow state-mandated requirements and standards. Our Early Childhood program is open five days per week, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Academic instruction occurs between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. We have small classes to accommodate the needs of each student. Pre-School classes (3 year olds) have a ratio of one teacher to every 13 students; Pre-Kindergarten classes (4 year olds) have a ratio of one teacher to every 15 students. We provide morning and afternoon snacks that include 100% juice, milk or water. Hot lunches are catered and are available to children for a fee. Parents are welcome to send a sack lunch and drink with their child. We LOVE parent participation and highly encourage parents to be active in their child’s education by being involved in activities like volunteering, participating in the Student Parent Association (SPA), assisting with the maintenance of the playground and other important activities.
