Congratulations to our girls’ softball team!
On Friday, the TCDS softball team captured their second championship with a 14-4 win over Desert Christian.
Here are some of the highlights per Coach Hall:
Hunter won her 12th game of the season, giving up four runs on eight hits, three walks, with five strikeouts. In the top of the fourth inning, Hunter got out of a bases-loaded jam by striking out back-to-back hitters to end the inning.
The defense also came up huge, making plays all over the field.
Rosabela made a nice running catch on a hard-hit ball in center field to save a run in the third. Madi hustled on two big plays to save runs as well. With one out, and runners on first and second, Hunter induced an infield fly rule out from the batter on a short pop up between the plate and the pitcher’s circle. Hunter and Viona collided chasing after the pop up, and the ball squirted away towards first base. Madi hustled from third base to cover the plate, and Hunter chased the ball down and flipped it to the plate – where Madi applied the tag to turn an inning ending double play.
In the top of the fifth inning – with a runner on first and one out – the batter singled to left field with the runner on first stealing. The throw in from Jasmine to third base got away, but Madi hustled after the ball and threw the runner out at home.
Offensively, The Champions tied the game up at 2 after the first inning, took a 6-2 lead after the second inning and never looked back.
The Champions tacked on five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game by the 10-run rule. Abby had three singles and scored four runs; Viona had two hits and scored three runs; Madi had a single and scored a run; and Jasmine walked twice and scored two runs. Jesamin added a double, a single, two RBI’s and scored two runs, including the championship clinching run. Rosabela had two hits and three RBI’s, knocking in Jesamin for the final run of the season on a fielder’s choice. In her final appearance for TCDS, Haylie walked, was hit by a pitch, doubled, singled, scored two runs and had two RBI’s.
The TCDS softball team finished the season with a record of 13-1, sending our five 8th graders softball players out in style. Thank you Haylie, Rosabela, Lexie, Faith and Amber for your hard work and dedication!
Congratulations to all of our hard-working softball players, and a huge thank you to all of the parents who volunteered during this season!
